THE RIPPLE EFFECT
Have you ever looked back and realised that one conversation, one encounter, or one quiet moment gently redirected the course of your life?
We rarely see our impact in real time; it reveals itself slowly, like the widening circles that appear when a single drop touches the surface.
In fashion, one decision around materials or process moves through an entire supply chain. It affects how much water is used, how much waste is created, and what ultimately ends up in landfill.
These choices may feel small at the point of making them, yet they determine the flow of the system that follows.
Water became a natural metaphor for this work. Not only because denim’s traditional processes rely heavily on it, but because water mirrors the way influence actually works.
fluid, expanding, AND transformATIVE. A small disruption can move through an entire system and reshape what comes after it.
This exploration came to life inside an East London factory, where Laundre, London's first circular denim hub, has opened its doors to brands, organisations and artists alike. Amongst eco-engineed industrial washers, laser machinery and piles of discarded denim, artist and designer SAMEK spent a week pulling apart old jeans and utilising the futuristic facilities at Laundre to reconstruct and design them into one-of-a-kind denim reworks.
Each piece was finished using LaundRe’s laser technology, with ripple patterns etched into the fabric, exploring visual metaphors for water, for cause and effect, and for the subtle yet powerful impact Laundre is creating within the denim industry.

LAUNDRE
Founded by industry expert Salli Deighton, LaundRe is London's first onshore circular denim facility reinventing how textiles move through the fashion ecosystem. A response to the insurmountable waste being produced by the denim industry.
Their closed-loop, low-waste systems integrate washing, laser finishing, repair, reconstruction, tinting, and material recovery, creating new value from discarded jeans while dramatically reducing environmental footprint. LaundRe partners with brands, studios, and circular design initiatives to demonstrate a scalable pathway toward a more regenerative industry.
For small brands, independent designers to large fashion houses, LaundRe offers something rare: a London-based space where waste stock can be reimagined through craft, collaboration and experimentation. A chance to create meaningful change locally and collectively.
